As it traverses the temporal bone, the facial nerve (VII) makes several bends and has several distinct segments: a) internal auditory canal segment; b) labyrinthine segment; c) geniculate ganglion; d) tympanic segment; e) pyramidal bend; f) mastoid segment. These segments are so labeled on both the horizontal and vertical sections.
