GENICULATE GANGLION of the FACIAL NERVE

Section 742: More of the basal turn of the cochlea (c) is visible. The internal auditory meatus is divided into a superior compartment (sc) and an inferior compartment (ic) by the crista falciforma (CF). Note that the geniculate ganglion (VIIc) is superior to the basal turn of the cochlea. The labyrinthine segment (VIIb) of the facial nerve extends inferomedially to enter the superior compartment of the IAM. The tensor tympani muscle (ttm) is seen in its semicanal near the geniculate ganglion. The cochlear aqueduct (ca) is still visible.
