My lab is interested in the cellular and molecular mechanisms associated normal signal transduction in the auditory system and how these mechanisms are affected by disease processes, noise exposure or aging. These studies typically involve identifying a molecule (protein) of interest, determining the location of that protein within the peripheral and/or central auditory system, and examining the functional role of that protein by assessing the consequence to hearing in mice with targeted deletions of the protein in question (knockout mice) or even augmented expression of the protein (transgenic mice).
