Q&A with Surgery Scheduler Amy Isom

Amy and Sidney Isom were married on Fort Walton Beach in Florida.

Scheduler Amy Isom describes herself as a hopeless homebody who enjoys nothing more than sharing a good movie with her family…as long as the house is tidy!

Amy Isom and husband Sidney enjoy a rare night out.

What is your current title and how long have you been with Oto?

My title is pre-certification coordinator, but I primarily work as a surgery scheduler. I have been with Washington University for 16 years and all of that time in the Department of Otolaryngology. As I’ve watched so many colleagues come and go, it seems almost strange to have never moved departments. But, I am very devoted. Prior to this, I worked providing elder care.

What do you like most about your work here?

Thumbs up from Travion Page as he heads off to his first day at Maryville University.

Hands down – I love the independence that comes with working from home! It wasn’t a job I was specifically looking for, but a friend told me about the job opening. The benefits sounded great, and with a 2-year-old at home, I figured I better apply.

What spare time activities bring you the most joy?

I am a hopeless homebody. I find it very satisfying to just watch movies and hang out with the husband and kids. In fact, my favorite indulgence would be some Chinese take-out and a good movie.

Sidney and I have been together 14 years. We have two children, Travion and Mia. Travion is a freshman at Maryville University and Mia attends Affton High School.

Do you have a favorite quote or words of wisdom you strive to live by?

I try to live by the same advice I give my kids – “Always try your best”. It doesn’t always guarantee the outcome you want, but at least you know you tried.

Is there a special something at the top of your bucket list?

Sidney and I think our dream vacation would be a trip to the Maldives. It has breathtaking scenery, awesome bungalows surrounded by ocean, stunning beaches, and perfect year-round weather. Who wouldn’t want to go there?

What would most surprise your colleagues to learn about you?

I like things nicely organized and clean. If I see something out of place, I tend to fix it. Don’t be surprised if I come to your house and start touching things. I can’t help myself, lol!
