Washington University Program Coordinator LaWanda Jackson reflects on life with an empty nest and her rewarding duties in the Otolaryngology Department

What is your current title, and how long have you been with WashU and what did you do before that?

I currently work as the Program Coordinator for the Patient Access Department in Otolaryngology. I have been with Oto and WashU for 11 years and 5 months. Before WashU, I worked at SSM DePaul for 10 years as a Patient Care Tech and a Unit Secretary.

LaWanda and her children, Lauryn and Michael, attending Lauryn’s Pharmacy White Coat ceremony 2022.

What do you like most about your work here?

I love helping patients. I have always found joy in being able to make patients happy. Customer service and healthcare has always been my passion.

How would you describe life in the Jackson household?

Currently, life is relaxing since my two children are adults now.  After working from home, most days it’s relaxing with a good movie, or some music.

Do you have a favorite activity or pastime?

My boyfriend and I are movie and music fanatics, so music is always playing in our house. You can either find me watching a great action movie or a good comedy and reality TV. At least twice a month, our date night is listening to a new live band.

Is there a special something at the top of your bucket list, and why?

A trip to Africa is definitely at the top of my bucket list. I have always had an interest in learning more about culture, history and just experiencing the geological wonders.
