Gender affirming voice care

Our team of laryngologists and speech-language pathologists have experience treating patients for whom their voices do not align with their gender identity. Treatment options currently available include voice therapy and procedural/surgical intervention. In most situations, voice therapy may be recommended prior to and in conjunction with any procedural/surgical intervention.

Voice therapy

There are many elements of voice and communication that can be addressed in therapy including: pitch, resonance, articulatory contact, prosody, and intonation. Gender affirming voice therapy does not require a multi-disciplinary evaluation with the laryngologist and SLP and can be initiated by having a referral placed by your primary physician or endocrinologist.

Medical treatments

Our laryngologists perform pitch changing procedures as well as chondrolaryngoplasties (i.e., trach shave). To be evaluated for one of these procedures, call our appointment desk at 314-362-7509 to schedule an initial evaluation with one of our laryngologists.
