Q&A with Clinical Audiologist Alison Brockmeyer

Washington University Clinical Audiologist Alison Brockmeyer offers a glimpse into exciting upcoming plans with her family.

What is your current title, and how long have you been with Oto and WashU?

I have been with the ENT department since 2010 and was hired as a Clinical Audiologist shortly after completing my Audiology Doctoral degree here at WashU Medicine. While my role continues to be predominantly patient care, it has evolved over time. I also teach a course in the audiology doctoral program on hearing devices and supervise graduate students during their clinic rotations. Most recently, I became the supervising audiologist at the Center for Advanced Medicine, adding some administrative duties to my list as well.

What do you like most about your work here?

Human interaction will always be the best part of my job, whether it’s with my patients or my colleagues. I enjoy helping patients improve their quality of life and ensure that they can continue to connect with those they love. I am also very lucky to work with talented audiologists and audiology assistants who have become great friends and make coming to work easy.

How would you describe life in your household?

The Brockmeyer-Lauer household consists of my husband Jesse, our 8-year-old son Ronan, and myself. The only way to describe our life is busy. If my husband and I are not working, we are typically attending one of Ronan’s many sporting events or practices. He plays select soccer, select baseball, and ice hockey and has dabbled a little in wrestling this winter. He has an amazing work ethic for such a young age, and we love watching his growth on and off the field.

Do you have a favorite activity or pastime?

We love to travel when we can get away, even if just a long weekend. Last year, we got away to Nashville, Chicago, and New York and in the summer of 2023, we were able to spend two weeks in Europe, where we saw the STL Cardinals play the Cubs in London. We are looking forward to our upcoming ski trip to Big Sky, Montana soon.

Is there a special something at the top of your bucket list, and why?

I’d really like to do more international travel. Exploring new cultures is exciting, and I enjoy learning about all the wonderful things the world has to offer.
