Graduation dinner highlights achievements of residents and fellows

Graduation ceremonies for the Department of Otolaryngology at Washington University School of Medicine returned to an in-person celebration this year, held June 24 at the Westwood Country Club in St. Louis.

The evening’s festivities celebrated graduating chief residents Stephanie Chen, MD, Pawina Jiramongkolchai, MD, MSCI, Miranda Lindburg, MD, Andrew Skillington, MD, MSCI, and Carla Valenzuela, MD, MSCI. Also recognized were graduating fellows Christopher Ian Newberry, MD, Hillary Newsome, MD, and Sepehr Shabani, MD.

Professor Emeritus Joel Goebel, MD, was also recognized. Goebel retired this year after 40 years of service to the department.

A number of teaching and humanitarian awards were presented at the dinner:

Joseph M. Chole Humanitarian Award: Pawina Jiramongkolchai, MD, MSCI
