Q&A with Financial Analyst Ryan Pipes

Ryan Pipes with husband John, daughter Lennon, and son Harvey, at John's return from his latest deployment in May 2022.

Financial Analyst Ryan Pipes is new to the university but already feeling quite at home. Here she shares her love for family adventures, ice cream, and numbers – in that order.

What is your current title and how long have you been with Oto?

I have been with the University since June 2022 as a Financial Analyst IV. Prior to joining Washington University, I worked in several areas of accounting, including Public Accounting (taxes/audit), Internal Audit and Financial Analysis. You could say I really enjoy numbers!

What do you like most about your work here?

I like that my duties here are always changing. Typical accounting/finance can be very routine. I love that no day is the same, and there is always something new to learn. Everyone here has been very welcoming and approachable with any questions I needed answered.

Being raised in St. Louis, I was very familiar with WashU and had always heard it was an amazing place to work. It has always been my goal to one day work for a non-profit. After working in public accounting and for large corporations several years, I was ready for a change.

What spare time activities do you enjoy?

My husband John and I recently celebrated our 10-year anniversary. We have two children, Lennon (6) and Harvey (2). We also have two German Shepherds, Brutus and Indiana. Together, they keep us very busy, but in a very good way!

A Pipes family vacation in Seaside, FL.

We love to travel and will take family vacations whenever we can. Most recently, we went back to our favorite area along Highway 30A in Rosemary Beach, FL. We are always up for an adventure and experiencing new places. We would love to take our children to Europe and hopefully take more trips to the mountains when they are a little older.

Do you have a favorite indulgence?

My favorite indulgence is ice cream! I don’t think there is a flavor that I don’t enjoy, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Moose Tracks.

What would most surprise your colleagues to learn about you?

I am a military spouse. John joined the Air Force in 2015, which took us to Minot, North Dakota for four years. After moving home in 2019, we purchased a fixer upper and renovated it ourselves, selling it just two years later. I love interior design and refinishing old furniture.
