On August 15, the Department of Otolaryngology held its annual Town Hall where Lindburg Professor and Chair Craig Buchman, MD, shared highlights of the department’s state of affairs and celebrated service awards for a number of staff members.

Buchman shared data that reflected a number of successes throughout the department’s mission areas:

  • Clinical volumes are up, showing an increase in total outpatient visits by 3.7% compared to last year.
  • The department ranked twelfth in the latest US News and World Report lists of best hospitals, making it the highest ranking department at WashU/BJC.
  • We are ranked third in NIH funding of otolaryngology departments nationwide and currently hold more R01 research awards than any otolaryngology department in the nation.
  • We are ranked sixteenth in otolaryngology residency programs nationwide by Doximity.

Buchman also shared the outstanding Press-Ganey scores received by our faculty physicians and a slew of outstanding patient comments regarding clinical staff performance. He also took a moment to welcome new faculty members, Katelyn Berg, PhD, Jamie Cadieux, AuD, and Ben Wahle, MD.

All the growth and success achieved in the department is thanks to the outstanding staff supporting our mission. Buchman took time to recognize staff with anniversaries ranging from five to 40 years of service to the department.

Research Scientist Tim Holden was recognized for 40 years of service to the department.
